19th Annual Men's Member-Guest
September 26, 2021
The 19th annual Carolina National Men's Member Guest finished up last week and was once again a highlight event. After a hiatus last year on account of the pandemic, the event returned this year with 28 two-man teams, grouped into 5 flights and played a round-robin match play format. After 6 matches, each flight winning team and one wild card qualified themselves for the overall championship shootout. A really nice size crowd of spectators followed the four-hole playoff as teams were eliminated one by one. In the end, it was the team of John Wezwick with his guest (and nephew) Bryan Wezwick who claimed victory and the title of Overall Champions. Congratulations gentlemen! With special recognition also going out to the following flight winning teams below.
Nicklaus Flight: George Andrew & Mike Andrew; Palmer Flight: John Charles & Matt Charles; Hogan Flight: Dan Tacinelli & Roger Clarkson; Jones Flight: Frank Paolicelli & Jim Martin; Snead Flight: John Wezwick & Bryan Wezwick
Thank you to all the participants in this year's event, and we truly hope it was an enjoyable experience for you and your guest. We look forward to a bigger and even better event next year!

Club Championship 2021
June 28, 2021
The annual tradition and quintessential test of individual golfing skill, the Club Championship was held June 24-26 and was highlighted by a pair of 3x champions and a sudden victory playoff. In the Gross competition within the Men's division, 36 holes of play was not enough! With a two-way tie for the lead, a sudden victory playoff was held. On the first hole Rick Klein came away with the victory over runner up, George Andrew. This win was Rick's third Club Championship at Carolina National having won previously in '14 & '18. In the Men's Net competition, Dave Kubly earned himself the title with an outstanding two days of play. In the Men's Senior division, Larry Shreffler won his third consecutive championship- quite the accomplishment! Congrats, gentlemen.
The ladies' event was very closely contested as well. This year Eileen Allen took the Gross competition crown and a well earned victory. In the Net competition Cynthia Amicone's performance was good enough for her to take home the championship there. Again, congratulations to all five Club Champions for 2021. Display that hardware proudly and enjoy the coveted parking spot on "Champions Row"!

April 9, 2021
The Arnold Palmer line from Puma Golf is now in the golf shop at Carolina National, and it is awesome. Carolina National knows how to Party!
April 5th, 2021
The Plantation Grille here at the club has been rockin' lately. Starting back in February with the romantic and delicious Valentine's dinner party featuring a filet and lobster surf 'n' turf dinner, champagne toast and a couples selfie station. It was a great night to be shared with that special someone!
That was followed shortly after by the 'Fat Tuesday' Mardi Gras party where we brought Bourbon Street right here to the beach! The dining room was transformed and decorated in purple, green and gold with balloons, boas, tassels, beads, masks and more. The kitchen prepared a wonderful menu full of cajun and creole classics with drink specials from the bar as well including the famous Hurricane.
And of course in March comes St. Patrick's Day where the beer was flowing like water and all the Irish cuisine you'd want from bangers & mash to Shepherd's pie and kiwi cheesecake. Ok maybe that last one's not Irish but it is green and delicious. There were even a few special prizes for those who found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
Most recently now, we just finished an amazing Easter brunch with a buffet that featured a freshly carved citrus-glazed ham and omelets made on the spot- then top it off with waffles sticks, eggs benedict, carrot cake and all the little Easter sweet treats and that mid-morning meal makes for a perfect Sunday.

Men's & Women's Opening Day
March 12, 2021
Both the Men's & Women's Golf Associations have formally opened their 2021 seasons. The ladies got things underway first opening on March 2nd. The ladies had quite a good turnout and were undeterred by what was a rather chilly early season day because when the birdie putts drop like they did for these two winning foursome, you've got to throw your arms up and celebrate!
Egret flight- Cynthia Amicone, Rosalie Stream, Janet Gorman, Jo Howell
Heron flight - Eileen Allen, Pat Atwater, Kathy Curtis, Carole Loof
The men were able to open their season on March 10th after a rainout the previous week. The reschedule turned out to be a great thing with beautiful weather and a field of 18 teams playing a four-man shamble. One team though far and away outplayed the rest. Well done by Dennis Brozowski, Dave Kubly, Robert Sirian, and Murray Spruce winners with a team score of 31 under par.
These two associations are the heart of Carolina National and one of the biggest highlights of membership at the club. We're very excited to have them back in season and look forward to a great year of golf ahead!

Fall Golf Conditions & Weather
November 20, 2020
We contend that the fall golf season is highly underrated! The spring gets a lot of attention because it presents the first opportunities for eager golfers to get on the course a bit more coming out of the winter, maybe break out the shorts, and enjoy the warmth of the sun for the first time in months. But the fall on a Carolina golf course can be very much under appreciated. The heat and humidity of summer have faded. Turf conditions are at a peak for Bermuda and other southern grasses that are thriving on the back end of the growing season, and meanwhile a rich touch of color starts to creep in to the surrounding foliage. Beautiful golf courses, great turf conditions and mild weather make for the perfect time to play. And besides all that, your game should be sharp by this time of year as well, right? Ok, maybe not but don't let that stop you from enjoying these days on the course. Save some time off for October and November. Plan a trip to the "Golf Capital of the World" or just get out and play right in your own backyard when the weather gives you a few days as good as these coming up!
As always, you can get your tee times live online right here at Carolina National on our Tee Times page found at the link below or call our golf shop where the staff will be happy to help you book a time to play in this the best season of the year.

New Carts Now on the Course!
October 26, 2020
Our new 2021 model Club Car golf cart fleet has just been delivered, unloaded, unwrapped and is now ready for play- out with the old and in with the NEW! Featuring lithium-ion v2.0 batteries these new carts are quiet, comfortable and have the power to go up to 45 holes on a single charge.
We're very excited to be rolling out some fresh new wheels on the course and hope you will enjoy the ride during your next round. It's not everyday that a club turns over the golf cart fleet, but it was undoubtedly a longer and more challenging process than usual having worked through a number of hurdles the past several months to get this done. There doesn't seem to be much that the pandemic hasn't touched and affected- but ooh that new cart smell is worth it!
If you've not played Carolina National before of even if it's been some time, we encourage you to come out and see what we have to offer. With the supremely challenging yet remarkably playable Fred Couples golf course at the center of everything, we strive to provide the best facilities and operation possible everyday. This is just one more step along the way and with a few other projects in the works, be on the look out for more from Carolina National soon.

The 2020 Myrtle Beach World Am at Carolina National
September 4, 2020
Carolina National proudly hosted three rounds of the 37th annual PlayGolfMyrtleBeach.com World Amateur Handicap Championship this year, and like most everything in 2020, it was a little different than usual but still widely received as a success and another great 'World Am' event. Rather than a large shotgun start, players went out in tee times and in place of the famous 19th Hole party, a virtual daily recap was broadcast the web. None the less, a total of 2,150 players took part this year with all 50 states represented, and the competition was as good as ever including a three-way sudden death playoff following the flight winners championship finale.
At Carolina National we were especially excited to have hosted the low handicap women's flight on Day 4 this year to see how a number of near-scratch ladies would fare. A few very good scores were posted including a low round of 74, but Freddie's Course certainly held its own. For more information on the Myrtle Beach World Amateur event from this year or to find out how you can become World Champion in 2021, visit the link below!

Congratulations to our 2020 Club Champions!
June 30, 2020
The annual Men's & Women's Club Championship was held June 25-27, 2020. The contestants played through some mixed and varied weather conditions, while the course proved to be rather challenging this year. The competition was 36 holes of stroke play with a total of five divisions where we had three repeat champions from 2019.
In the men's gross contest George Schuler was able to successfully defend his title from a year ago and now making it four of the last six for him. Charles Sillery did well to play very near to his handicap winning the men's net competition with a one over par total. In the senior division, Larry Shreffler turned in two solid rounds making it back-to-back championships for him in the over 70 group.
Connie Koch is the women's repeat champion in the gross competition by one stroke this year. She also won consecutive titles in 2014-15. The women's net contest came down to a tie-breaker where Lynne Rice, making a nice 2nd day comeback, was crowned this year's champion. Again, well done by all and congratulations on earning that coveted parking spot on "Champions Row"
